Chinese Juniper - Itoigawa - Bonsai Tree
Itoigawa is the finest juniper variety for bonsai. The very compact fine deep green foliage makes for an especially fine and refined tree when mature. But, in spite of the trees very 'tidy' appearance it still grows very quickly and develops great bonsai in double quick time. Very easy to keep and fully hardy in all areas of the U.K. This variety appreciates a little protection on the hottest of summer days and a little shelter from drying winds. Water and fertilize well.
Appreciates a little fertilizer about once a month throughout the year (obviously more in summer).
Never prune more than 10-15% of the foliage at any one time otherwise the tree will be excessively shocked and will start to produce long juvenile shoots.
Itoigawa grows best when slightly pot bound so do not re-pot very often.
Imported from Japan spring 2013. We recently worked this stunning juniper for the first time. A very unusual and unique bonsai was the result. The tree has a twisted hollow trunk, a great nebari and beautiful branch structure. The foliage is a little pale due to the previous owner overwatering the tree. Ready for re-potting next spring or summer. A rare opportunity to add something unique and different to your collection.
12" tall above it's pot. 23" wide overall. 4.5" diameter nebari.
Planted in a terracotta nursery pot.
